Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Gallery is one of the most attractive and important places to visit in Lukla. This gallery has been established to honour the first Nepali woman to reach the top of Mount Everest. This gallery is located at Lukla, Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality Ward 2, Nepal. It is one of the popular place in Lukla and lies at the enrty point. Upon reaching Lukla, this is the first place that trekkers can visit. The gallery basically consists of pictures framed in walls depicting the life stages of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa.
Who was Pasang Lhamu Sherpa ?
Pasang Lhamu Sherpa is the sherpa lady living in the Lukla , Solukhumbu district. She was born on 10 December 1961. She hails from a mountaineering family. Hence, climbing mountain is in her blood already. From a younger she was a mountain enthustiastic which led her to climb several mountains such as Mount Blanc, Mount Cho Oyu, Mount Yalapic, Pisang Himal etc. To make a huge mark in Nepal's history she tried to climb mount everest for 3 times. Unfortunately, she didn't became succesful in it. However she was still active on her mountaineering journey. She still had hope and didn't gave up everything easilyThen finally the day came on April 22, 1993 when she was able to reach the summit of highest peak in the world Mount Everest(8,848m). That was the day until today, she is the first Nepali women to reach Mount Everest.
Death of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa
Sadly, after creating history by becoming first nepali lady to climb on the top of Mount Everest we could get her back to home. So, while descending from the summit, weather conditions started to deteriorate drastically. A violent winter storm swept away all the team members who went mountaineering. The supplemental oxygen they had carried was not enough to fight such destruction. This resulted in the death of all the mountaineers, including Pasang Lhamu Sherpa. Hence, we lost our female Nepali maontaineering hero at the age of 32.
Achievement & Recognition for Pasang Lhamu Sherpa
Pasang Lhamu Sherpa was honoured with a big achievement of being the first nepali woman to reach at the top of Mount Everest by her nation Nepal. All the mountaineers in world also honoured her for her unbelievable achivement in the history of the world. In fact, the National Youth Foundation conferred the 1993-94 Youth Excellence Award in her name. Besides that, she was also named "Nepal Tara (Star)" by the King of Nepal.

The Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Gallery was inaugurated on Sunday, January 12, 2026, by Ward Chairman Laxman Adhikari. In the gallery, you will find some of the best activities of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa from the years 1961 to 1993. That includes the history of mountain climbing achievements on various mountain peaks.
